In the drive to upscale hygiene, cleanliness and good health amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Zambian Breweries joined the Ministry of Local Government and Lusaka City Council at the weekend in a massive disinfection of Munyaule Market.
Munyaule Market is one of Lusaka’s busiest markets, with thousands of vulnerable marketer’s coming from across city.
The move by Zambian Breweries to clean Munyaule Market is part of government’s intervention to disinfect public places from COVID-19 and continue the Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy campaign.
The outbreak of COVID-19 globally and locally has seen stringent health measures being taken to curb its spread with concerted effort, unity of purpose and working together as a people.
Present at the clean-up of Munyaule Market, was Minister of Local Government Hon. Charles Banda, Lusaka City Mayor Miles Sampa and Zambian Breweries Country Director Jose Moran, who led teams in sanitising the marketplace.
“It is gratifying that the government has seen it right to move cautiously by enhancing health security for the people, whilst at the same time allowing for the economy to run reasonably under very stringent health measures,” said Mr Moran.
“We want to commend the entire government, the Republican President Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the Ministry of Health for the exemplary manner in which they have handled this very difficult and delicate situation of the COVID-19,” he added.
In respect to the virus, Zambian Breweries has implemented enhanced measures for its staff and the community in line with Ministry of Health directives to end the spread.
“We believe that working together as a people we shall overcome this challenge. Despite the impact on the economy and industry, we remain supportive of the measures that have been introduced,” he added.
Zambian Breweries contributed cleaning materials and personal protective equipment worth about K60,000 to Lusaka City Council to help in the clean-up of the market.
Mr Moran assured government of the company’s support in the fight against the pandemic and that it would continue with similar initiatives to make public places safe and healthy.
