Zambian Breweries has donated over 6,000 posters to government since the breakout of COVID-19 in March this year.
The donation of posters is part of the three-pillar strategy the brewing company is using to contributing towards combating the respiratory disease together the Zambian government.
The posters, which relay information on the symptoms and preventive measures of the respiratory disease, are aimed at enhancing risk and prevention communication.
“Communication plays a pivotal role in the fight against this virus. Having the right information on COVID-19 is the first, and greatest, preventive measure against the disease,” observed Zambian Breweries Country Head of Marketing Sibajene Munkombwe.
Mr Munkombwe noted that effective communication was a key component of managing a crisis such as the COVID-19 global pandemic.
“We all need to know the enemy that we are fighting, and our posters provide quick insights into the global enemy – COVID-19,” he said.
The country’s largest brewing company distributed 3.000 posters to retailers before the restrictions started, with a further 3,000 donated to the Ministry of Health.
So far the donated posters have been distributed in Lusaka and the company hopes to extend to other parts of the country soon.
“As we all know, Lusaka is the epicentre of COVID-19. Therefore, we started from here, but we hope to take this to other parts of the country,” Mr Munkombwe said.
The company has also donated 10 billboards with COVID-19 risk and prevention messaging as part of the three-pillar strategy.
Mr Munkombwe vowed that ZB will continue supplementing government efforts with regards risk communication during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Be it through posters or billboards, we shall support efforts aimed at keeping the public abreast on this disease,” he said.
On April 28, Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa officially launched the ZB initiative aimed at enhancing communication and awareness on preventive measures of COVID-19, which include three static and seven digital billboards that ZB donated to government.
Notable locations in Lusaka where the billboards have been installed include Kamwala Flyover Bridge, South End Roundabout and along Burma Road.
“The impact of these communication tools on the fight against this disease will be far greater than the monetary value of producing them,” the ZB Head of Marketing further stressed.
