Zambian Breweries Plc (ZB) has partnered with the Lusaka Water and Sanitation Company (LWSC) in constructing a US$150,000 industrial water borehole in George Compound of Lusaka.
This partnership comes on the back of the commitment made by ZB at the height of the cholera outbreak of 2018, at which time many lives were lost.
An industrial borehole in Lusaka’s George compound commissioned by Zambian Breweries is now 70 percent complete, and handover is expected by the second quarter of this year.
The industrial water borehole will benefit over 400,000 residents within and around George compound in Lusaka West once completed in late April this year.
Its power control room is almost complete with only roofing and plastering left to go.
This came to light when Zambian Breweries Director of Corporate Affairs Ezekiel Sekele visited the construction site and was glad to see the progress made by the engineers from Lusaka Water and Sanitation Company (LWSC).
The industrial well sits on a 50×100-metre piece of land acquired by LWSC with financial support from Zambian Breweries Plc and its parent company AB InBev.
So far, engineers have laid 40 percent of water pipes connecting the borehole to the tank located three kilometres away.
They have laid 200 PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes underground and hope to finish by end of April this year.
The industrial water borehole, with a lifespan of over 100 years will pump 25 litres of water per second, assuring residents of access to clean water 24/7.
